Joomla! It's not just a website.
- Joomla! is a Website, Content Management System (CMS) and Database.
- It's basic construct is an engine (CMS), upon which you overlay Website templates. Behind the CMS is a database.
- Joomla!, consists of components and modules which you switch on and off at will.
- If you want to change the layout of your site, just assign a new template.
- If you want your public facing website to look different from your registered users website, simply assign a different template to the public page.
- If your customer has changed their email address, they can log in and change it themselves.
- If you need to add a contact, just pick the person from your database and add them to the contacts list.
- Every article can be its own page. There are no limitations on the number of pages a Joomla! site can have.
- The Joomla! CMS has, at present, over 3000 extensions serving a multitude of different functions. From Calendars and Photo Galleries to e-Commerce.
- Joomla! has been translated in to 53 languages.
- There are thousands of website templates available for Joomla!.
- Joomla! has a strong pedigree.
- Joomla! forked from Mambo (an Australian system developed in 2000) in August 2005.
- Web designers (often graphic artists with very few technical skills) use 'scripts' to generate 'hardcode' HTML websites.
- A typical 'web designer' will give you 1 flash object, a few photos of serious looking people (1 with their sleeves rolled up!!), an email link and '5 pages'.
- Why 5 pages ? - Because thats all their 'script' can do. If you want more than 5 pages, they simply don't have the skill to do it.
- To make a change to a website a 'web designer' may edit the actual HTML, but they are more likely to re-generate the whole website.
- This is a time consuming and risky task, even for a I.T. technician.
- Oh ! and one final point. HTML is an old standard. XHTML is the current standard and Joomla! is fully compliant.
